What was the most significant experience for your child this school year?

Well, according to what I heard from my child, he relished “EVERYDAY” at Montessori of Loyola. He never dreaded going to school. He waited every weekend to go back to school on Monday. Oh, he loved the birthday parties, field trips, Friday cooking time, and play time. More than anything, he made many friends, which made him feel accepted and beloved. Great relationship with teachers was also one of the most significant experiences for him

I noticed they were also consistent in instilling values and discipline onto the children. I love the teachers in your school. They have an ideal combination of being kind yet firm.

The teacher-student ratio was very small and the children were absolutely sweet and beautiful

C. Program Content and Learning Experiences

In general, I was very happy with the educational content. I was impressed with the wide range of the curriculum – from science to culture to nature and to history to people. I don’t think my child would have experienced it in any other school. I commend the school for its holistic curriculum and balanced approach.

D. Home/ Parent- School Partnership

I had a wonderful experience in communicating with the school in terms of partnering to educate my child. I especially appreciate your letting me know everything – good and bad – that happens to a child at school. I also felt it’s important for teachers to know the home situation of the child so they may have a better understanding of the child’s life.

I loved your class card (assessment card), which is very detailed and encouraging. I appreciated your weekly posting of aims and topics of the class. It helped me prepare my child for the week’s lessons.

“I always tell friends and relatives that my husband and I made the right decision in choosing Montessori of Loyola for Luke. It offers a very good learning environment for the kids and, for us, it is primarily because of the competent teachers. Their curriculum is well-thought, they seem to be able to understand each child’s learning abilities and needs, and adjust accordingly. You could sense that each child is important to them. They understand that each is unique and they would make an effort to help that child learn more…

They were also perceptive enough to know when a child is ready for the next level. In the case of Luke, I believe his progress in reading was fast because they were aware of the signals and they acted upon it right away, providing him with the right stimulation in terms of encouragement and challenging materials…

I was attracted by the creativity in the materials and there were quite a lot. So I thought the kids who would attend the school would really have a good time playing and learning with those materials plus they have enough space to move around.”

Montessori of Loyola Parents Full Testominials

From Mrs. Joie Buban, mother of Luke

What was the most significant experience for your child this school year?

From my point of view, it was Luke’s knowing how to read half-way through the school year. I believe it to be truly significant considering that when he started school for the first time in June, he could recognize just 3 letters of the alphabet.

It couldn’t have happened if not for the competence of the teachers – they know how to approach the level of learning for each child and the materials that will help them achieve the learning objective. They were also perceptive enough to know when a child is ready for the next level.

In the case of Luke, I believe his progress in reading was fast because they were aware of the signals and they acted upon it right away, providing him with the right stimulation in terms of encouragement and challenging materials.

Please evaluate the school along the following categories:

A. Indoor and Outdoor Facilities

When I stepped inside the classroom for the first time to meet Teacher Stella, what caught my eye was the spaciousness of the room and the variety of materials for the children. There were different kinds of books and reading materials, materials to teach numbers, letters, sensory and art materials, flags of different countries and even (non-harmful) items found normally in the kitchen, sized for little hands. I was attracted by the creativity in the materials and that there were quite a lot. So I thought that kids who would attend school would really have a good time playing and learning with those materials plus they have enough space to move around.

B. Teachers and Curriculum

I always tell friends and relatives that my husband and I made the right decision in choosing Montessori of Loyola for Luke. It offers a very good learning environment for the kids, and for us, it is primarily because of the competent teachers. Their curriculum is well-thought, they seem to be able to understand each child’s learning abilities and needs, and adjust accordingly. You could sense that each child is important to them. They understand that each is unique and they would make an effort to help that child learn more, even if they have to use different approaches.

C. Home/ Parent- School Partnership

The Parent’s Orientation done during the first months of school is an activity that we were not expecting as other schools don’t normally have it. The teachers made an effort to explain how they implement the curriculum as well as present the use of the different materials. We found it very informative and useful.

Letting us know of important announcements, activities etc. ahead of time (through the Bridge and text messages) is (also) something that we parents feel is very important and hope that the teachers will continue doing.

“Compared to most schools I’ve checked, Montessori of Loyola has the cleanest classroom and the best Montessori materials… The main asset of this school are their teachers. All of them are kind, patient and with sincere and genuine concern for the well-being of the kids….

During her first year (in Montessori of Loyola), we were amazed that after only a short period of time Bianca became more sociable and friendly and most of all she could read already – truly an accomplishment…

Now that my daughter is in Grade 1 already, I appreciated more the curriculum. She is so advanced in her lessons now in Miriam. The school had a way of teaching the kids advance topics without making it too difficult or complicated…

Academically I think she’s doing very well and you are doing a very good job… She has also grown so much during her stay – from the super shy girl who did not want to leave my side to (later) begging me to let her stay a little longer to play with her classmates and read books with her teachers… She loves the school and the teachers so much that even up to now, in her 2nd month in the big school, she still asks me why can’t she go back to Montessori of Loyola…”

Montessori of Loyola Parent’s Full Testimonial

From Mrs. Karen Okol, mother of Bianca

What was the most significant experience for your child during her stay at Montessori of Loyola?

During Bianca's two-year stay in Montessori of Loyola, she met new friends and learned so much.

Being away from me for the first time in her life was quite difficult for both her and me. She had some anxieties about separation. It took her some time to adjust. But with the teachers’ perseverance and loads of patience,  she was able to overcome her fear. She was able to adjust and enjoy school life.

During her first year, we were amazed that after only a short period of time she became more sociable and friendly and most of all she could read already – truly an accomplishment.

Academically I think she’s doing very well and you are doing a very good job. She is “advanced” compared to other kids her age from different schools.

She had grown so much during her stay -- from the super shy girl  who did not want to leave my side to (later) begging me to let her stay a little longer so she could still play with her classmates and read books with the teachers. I was so proud of her when she delivered her speech during their graduation in front of so many people. I guess she has matured with your help and support.

She loves the school and teachers so much that even up to now in her 2nd month in the big school she still asks me why can’t she go back to Montessori of Loyola. I guess the experience really made a mark in my daughter’s life, I am glad you were an effective partner in instilling values and ethics in my daughter.

Please evaluate the school along the following categories:

A. Indoor and Outdoor Facilities

Compared to most schools I've checked, Montessori of Loyola has the cleanest classroom and the best Montessori materials. I also heard from the teacher aides that they mop the floor and dust the materials everyday. The big and small rooms both have air-conditoners, and their comfort rooms are built to be kid-friendly. I also like the separate office for other concerns so you won’t disrupt the on-going class. Bianca enjoyed feeding the fish and running around in your spacious backyard. The first year of Bianca, I suggested a slide for the playground. The year after, Bianca was delighted to see a new swing, a slide and other playground facilities.

B. Teachers

The main asset of this school are their teachers. All of them are kind, patient and with sincere and genuine concern for the well- being of the kids. The teachers are sweet and loving but at the same time firm enough to discipline the kids. The teachers are the highlight of Montessori of Loyola.

I think your teachers are the best part. I commend your very patient and caring teachers. Bianca could not stop talking about how nice and caring her teachers are. All the while I thought they were just playing in school – but she learned so much after only one year.

C. Program Content and Learning Experiences

When Bianca was at Montessori of Loyola, I usually checked the weekly themes and lessons. I like the way you present certain lessons to the children in such a way that you make it informative yet enjoyable.

Now that my daughter is in Grade 1 already, I appreciated more the curriculum. She is so advanced in her lessons now in Miriam. The school had a way of teaching the kids advance topics without making it too difficult or complicated. They know the capabilities of each level so they feed them with information to get them set for big school.

D. Home/ Parent- School Partnership

I would like to commend the school for its consideration for the parent's schedule and budget. I appreciate how you take into consideration the parents’ schedule during programs and the PTC. The homeworks were practical but at the same time would still accomplish the objectives of the project… I could genuinely see how concerned and involved you are in my child’s development.

E. Other comments

I highly recommend Montessori of Loyola to my friends.

A Parent’s Update

Dear Teacher Stella,

How are you? Bianca still misses her old school and would still 'emote' once in awhile. She was at first overwhelmed with the big school, always worried that she might get lost, thankfully she adjusted already. I was a bit surprised with Bianca's workload, they seem to have tests every week for every subject, so that's 6-8 tests per week! Bianca was exhausted during her 1st month but now she’s got the hang of it. She's doing very well in school, her test's scores are really high even in Filipino and Sibika.

I’m now teaching her how to converse in Tagalog, although it’s not her favorite thing to do. She's excelling in Math, Reading and Language, all her tests so far are perfect. She keeps on telling me that it's so easy daw, she learned that already in pre-school. She's quite advanced in Math, almost half of the topics in the book she already learned in pre-school.

Thank you very much for helping Bianca. I'll see you soon.

Montessori of Loyola Parent’s Full Testimonials

From Mrs. Noreen Sulit, mother of Anika

What was the most significant experience for your child this school year?

I was thrilled that Anika learned to read at 3 years old!  I enrolled her at 3 years old mainly for socialization but it was most rewarding to see how well she took to school. She really absorbed what was taught.  Today at six years old, she is a fast reader and can read and comprehend books much more advanced than her grade level.

The teachers also encouraged her love of music. For UN Day, they taught the kids many songs in different languages.  I was impressed!

My child has also started doing basic multiplication at 5 years old! She has mastered skip-counting up to 100. I strongly feel that the school has thoroughly prepared her for the big school. I couldn’t be happier.

Aside from providing tremendous intellectual stimulation,  the school provided her an opportunity to interact with other children. Anika became more sociable and more conversational with other kids since being enrolled.

Also, I was assured that my child would be cared for and looked after by pro- active and intelligent teachers that really had my child’s best interests at heart. Because they made learning fun, Anika is excited to go to school every day.

The school has fostered a deep love of learning and encouraged her curiosity of the world. With Montessori of Loyola,  I found a true partner in helping me develop my child and maximize her potential. I feel that Anika found a home away from home here.

The school has exceeded my expectations based on the progress of my child.

Please evaluate the school along the following categories:

A. Indoor and Outdoor Facilities

I checked several preschools in the Loyola Heights area and I liked Montessori of Loyola best because of the facilities. The classroom is spacious, the restrooms are clean and there is sufficient space for the children to store their things in.  Inside, the materials are new, clean, well-cared for and properly organized. It is inviting for the children to explore the materials.

The school has a delightful playground with enough space to safely run around in. My child’s favorite is the sandbox. Also, there is a garden and there are trees and flowering plants. When it rains, the children still have a covered play area.

I also like the location of the school since it is inside a village. I feel that the area is safer for my child because it is inside a gated community. Since there are fewer cars on the road, I feel my child is safer especially during drop off and pick up time. The neighbourhood is quiet. There is also always someone guarding the school’s entrance. Parking is not a problem either. There is ample street parking, which is great especially during school programs when all the parents are in attendance.

B. Teachers

My experience with the teachers of the school has been very positive. I felt at ease leaving my child with them during the day because I really felt that they cared for the children.

They really nurtured my child and gave her the attention that she needed. There is a lot of one on one time, especially when reviewing my child for big school entrance exams, or when she needed to catch up on her work.

My daughter really formed a special attachment with her teachers. They make her feel safe. The teachers are intelligent, friendly, approachable, available, non-intimidating and encouraging. I also wanted teachers that had good diction, to ensure that my child would learn to speak English properly.

Also, I was given weekly updates on her progress. If a special situation arose, I was informed of it immediately and discreetly. I really felt a partnership with the teachers.

C. Program Content and Learning Experiences

It’s in keeping with the Montessori method. The content is advanced compared to other traditional preschools.

I have compared the curriculum of the school with those of big schools. I have found that, sometimes, the material my child was being taught at Montessori of Loyola was even more advanced than the material being taught children at older grade levels in other schools.

I felt that the school adapted to the needs of the students. For example, when they saw that Anika was ready to read, they accelerated her program and did not hesitate to teach her despite her young age. The teachers give students more challenges as long as they are hungry for more.

I’m satisfied my child is sufficiently challenged. I also like the Christmas program; the Nativity story is already one of her favorite reads now.

D. Home/ Parent- School Partnership

I was properly updated on any activities going on at the school. Aside from the Bridge notebook, the teachers actively communicated to  me anything that needed my attention.

I felt Teacher Stella was responsive to my suggestions. When I suggested for them to try to incorporate teaching some Filipino (outside of Filipino lessons during Linggo ng Wika)   to help prepare Anika for Filipino classes in big school, they introduced stories in Filipino. Materials were specially made to meet the needs of the students.

The school doesn’t make excessive demands on the parent’s time. There are just enough activities for parents to be involved in, but not too much that it becomes inconvenient.

E. Other comments

I feel that sending Anika to Montessori of Loyola was a wise investment. I made the right choice for my child because the proper balance of learning, fun and discipline is present.

I know my child will always remember her pre-school years with fondness. It gave her a great foundation for learning and prepared her for the academic challenges of the big school.

I like that the school is not complacent in its success. I can see that it is always trying to improve its curriculum. It continually adjusts to the needs of the individual child.

If I have another child, I will most likely send my child to the same school. I made the right choice with Montessori of Loyola!

“Felipe has grown to love the school. He fondly remembers the fieldtrips and activities. Last year, he especially enjoyed the Science Centrum.

This year, the most enjoyable experience was the UN Day program. He was very excited with his role and the country and continent he talked about. He was happy to share with his classmates the places he got to visit in our European trip last year.

The different school activities are always incorporated into the child’s learning and are very fun for the children.

Teachers are just blessings!  We see that the children are very much loved and cared for! We couldn’t ask for anything more from your school.

We are very happy with the partnership and support by the school, especially with the review class that was given by the school to seniors. We believe this has helped them with their confidence and academics and was more than what was expected.

We have no issues because we feel the school/teachers have given more than enough of what was expected. Keep up the good work!”

“Let me just say three things that we appreciate about Montessori of Loyola: First, we appreciate the personalized attention by teachers…Second, we appreciate the assessment reports. They were very detailed and very vivid. They tell us not just about his academic progress but also what he is interested in and what he is good at, and of course what he needs to improve on. Most of all, your stories give us further insight on the kind of person he is... Those reports are very precious to us...

Third, Jamin has really made a lot of progress both academically and socially….He has become even more self-confident since he went to pre-school… He's also very much interested in math and reading. Recently he was at Matteo's house and he read a story to Mateo! That was really amazing.

His passing the Ateneo prep exam was a significant milestone and was a result of the preparation you provided him at the Montessori of Loyola... Montessori of Loyola has been truly a home away from home – a warm, nurturing and happy place for Jamin. “

Montessori of Loyola Parent’s Full Testimonial

From Prof. Benjamin Tolosa and Tess Tolosa, parents of Jamin

“Like Jamin, we are happy and proud that he is a graduate of the Montessori of Loyola and will always treasure Jamin’s preschool years here.

We are grateful for and appreciate the two and a half years that Jamin spent here.  Montessori of Loyola has been truly a home for him – and it is literally only several steps away from our house. He walks to school every day with his Daddy, Benjie (or his Daddy does the walking with Jamin as “passenger” or sometimes bikes).

Let me just say three things that we appreciate about Montessori of Loyola:

First, we appreciate the personalized attention by teachers, and the fact that you saw beyond his being overly playful and wiggly, and instead focused on his inquisitiveness and love for stories.  More recently, when Jamin was adjusting as a new and youngest member of the senior’s class, you made an effort to build team spirit through activities and games that allowed the children to bond with each other.  He particularly enjoyed the pajama party you helped the children organize.

Second, we appreciate the assessment reports.  They were very detailed and very vivid.  They tell us not just about his academic progress but also what he is interested in and what he is good at, and of course what he needs to improve on. Most of all, your stories give us further insight on the kind of person he is.

We remember the report where you said Jamin is remarkable for expressing his values.  One time you said he told a classmate earnestly, “don’t eat junk food because it will make your teeth turn black.”

Last year, you observed that Jamin was beginning to learn how to read when after building a word with movable letters, like c-a-t, he would rearrange the letters and ask teacher Stella to read the nonsensical “words” like tac, cta, atc, and he would laugh and be so amused.  And what you saw then was that he likes to mentally play with and test different ideas, and that he likes to experiment.

Around the time when Jamin was reviewing for the prep entrance exam, you noticed how he didn’t have patience for repetitious oral drills, but enjoyed taking part in freewheeling discussions on a wide range of topics.

There are lots more… but we saw in your observations how you took personal care of him and how you have seen him grow. Those reports are very precious to us.

Third, Jamin has really made a lot of progress both academically and socially.  Since he was very young, we noticed his gift for expressing himself.  He has become even more self-confident since he went to preschool. He is not afraid to participate when people ask for volunteers and to give his opinions. He’s also very much interested in math and reading.  Recently, he was at Matteo’s house and he read a story to Matteo!  That was really amazing.  His passing the Ateneo prep exam was a significant milestone and was a result of the preparation you provided him at the Montessori of Loyola.

We will miss walking him to school everyday (especially his Daddy, Benjie) … even though Ateneo is also in the neighbourhood. But there will be a huge difference in terms of size and traffic and number of students! Montessori of Loyola has truly provided a home away from home --- a warm, nurturing and happy place for Jamin.

Jamin has asked us, next school year, after his Ateneo class, can he still drop by Montessori of Loyola to  say “Hi” to his teachers and friends, and play?”

“We have certainly made a good decision when we enrolled our daughter Ia in Montessori of Loyola. A transferee from another school where she spent two years in Nursery, she was unable to write her full name, read only two-letter words and spent most of her time in school doing art, like cutting paper and coloring.

We moved to a new residence. Thus, the transfer to a new school. We did not expect too much from her new school. We were amazed at the pace our child could cope. She was able to write legibly, read words, then sentences and developed the habit of reading books on her own. With the variety of effective materials presented, Ia learned many things fast while having fun at the same time.

She looked forward to going to school each day, as it was also a time to interact and play with her peers. After only 1 ½ years, Ia stands out and shines when compared to other children her age who were educated in other schools. We highly recommend Montessori of Loyola.

The indoor and outdoor facilities are excellent. The teachers are very influential and with really good personalities. The program content is impressive.”
